Dividing Pecans
On the outskirts of town, there was a big old pecan tree by the cemetery fence. One day two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several were dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my," he shuddered, it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

"Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard. Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls."

The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted, though, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' the truth. Let's see if we can see the devil himself."

Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of Satan.

At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. And one last one for you. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence, and we'll be done."

Both of them taking off, the old guy made it back to town five minutes before the boy.
***
They say, every mighty oak tree was at one time simply a nut, holding it's ground. May I forever be a nut, holding my ground. A nut, standing for the truth, and what's right. A nut, that makes a difference in not only my family and friends lives, but the world in general. With these ideas in mind however, I've made a deal with myself. I would encourage anyone wanting a life lived without regrets, without moments missed, and without one precious hug lost to make a similar one.
This nut will burn the pink candle sculpted like a rose instead of letting it melt in storage.
This nut will talk less and listen more.
This nut will invite friends over to dinner even if the carpet is stained or the sofa faded.
This nut will eat the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worry much less about the dirt when someone wants to light a fire in the fireplace.
This nut will sit on the lawn with her niece and nephew and not worry about grass stains.
This nut will cry and laugh less while watching television and more while watching life.
But mostly, given this wonderful day for life, this nut will seize every minute, look at it and really see it , live it and never give it back...
I pray today, for everyone reading this. May you be today, simply a nut. :P
Keep in mind... no body likes a fruitcake!!!

#SurvivingGrief
Thanks to LindyM for sharing such a precious part of her heart and soul with us:
My Brother
He’s gone from me and I’m brokenhearted
From our world & family, he has parted
I wondered why God took him from me
Trust the Lord  it’s the way it should be

God knows my pain; he sees my tears
He knows my heart and all my fears
He holds me tight as I cry to sleep
Staying close to Him, forever to keep

My mind brings forth words left unsaid
Thoughts go wandering through my head
Some thank you and memories to be told
A few stories to share and a poem of old

What would my brother say to me
If right now, he was here to see
He’d encourage me to go on my way
Keep sharing God’s love every day

So, I’ll stay close to God, as you can tell
Walking with Jesus, then all will be well
Letting Him carry me through dark days
Keeping my brother in my heart always

TOPIC NIGHT:  Each and every Wed. night at 9pm (EST), in #Momma^s_House "TOPIC NIGHT" discussions. This is a debate of sorts, hosted and moderated by our own MrPirk.
MrPirk gives us topic ideas before Wed., which he posts on the channel Forum. www.themommashouse.org/forum.html  Thus giving everyone a chance to debate in an informed manner. Our Topic Nights have been very successful, lasting longer then the planned hour, with more and more people in attendance.
Plan to come out for this event for fun and intelligent conversation! Be there or Be square!
***NOTE***  Topic suggestions are always welcomed. Please submit them to MrPirk or Momma.
TWISTED TRIVIA TUESDAYS:
The concept of our TWISTED TRIVIA is to have a guest host each week. Already we have several chatters on our list. The "host" will ask the questions, and if nobody answers, then we ALL "google" for the answers!
Each guest host will write, research and ask the questions. This is a chance for you, the chatters, to ask questions based on facts about your passions (not sexual) and/or hobbies!
MrPirk will host our first TWISTED TRIVIA TUESDAY this coming Tues. Nov. 2, to show us how it is done. It will only last for about an hour or so!  So come join us in #Momma^s_House every Tuesday at 9pm (EST), get your dose of trivia and GET TWISTED!

Interesting Holiday tidbits from Momma!
THE CRANBERRY!
Why do cranberries go so well with turkey? They just do. Did you know that cranberries got their name from the pilgrims? They supposedly called them "caneberries" because their long-necked pink blossoms resembled the heads of cranes.
Here are some hints for cooking or storing Cranberries....
*Fresh cranberries will keep in the refrigerator for 4-8 weeks or you can freeze fresh cranberries for almost a year wrapped in an airtight bag.
*One pound of berries will yield about four cups and they're easy to find this time of year in the produce section of your grocery store. Look for plump, firm berries with a lustrous color for the best quality.
*Shortly before using, wash cranberries, pick through them and discard any that are soft, spongy, bruised or decaying.
*Adding 1 teaspoon of butter to each pound of cranberries when cooking eliminates foam and overboiling. Also, cook cranberries just until they pop to avoid a bitter taste.

All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned From LEGOs
Are you into LEGOs?  Our son, Caleb, is. He has been playing with LEGOs since he was about four years old. He likes to put the kits together - - one time. After that, he uses the pieces to
create his own designs. For the last couple of months, he's been working on Legoville. His layout features a railroad, streets, vehicles, people, and several buildings. Oh, did I mention that it covers a third of our family room? Comprehension, strategy, and ingenuity are just three life-skills being developed in Caleb by these little bricks.

LEGO Lessons for Life

Life might be less complicated for all of us if we each received our own LEGO kit at birth. Yes, I realize there is a choking hazard for children under three. But when you are old enough, you can learn a lot from LEGOs. I have learned that:
~ Size doesn't matter. When stepped on in the dark, a 2X2 LEGO brick causes the same amount of pain as a 2X8 brick.
~ All LEGO men are created equal (1.5625 inches tall). What they become is limited only by imagination.
~ There is strength in numbers. When the bricks stick together, great things can be accomplished.
~ Playtime is important. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you are building, as long as you're having fun.
~ Disaster happens. But the pieces can be put back together again.
~ Every brick has a purpose. Some are made for a specific spot - most can adapt almost anywhere - but every one will fit somewhere.
~ Color doesn't matter. A blue brick will fit in the same space as a red brick.
~ No one is indispensable. If one brick is unavailable, another can take its place.
~ It doesn't always turn out as planned. Sometimes it turns out better. If it doesn't, you can always try again.

"Emma's Secret" by Barbara Taylor Bradford
ISBN 0312307020 Publisher St Martin's Press, January 2004
Available in paperback  A New York Times Bestseller List book

Emma Harte, the legendary heroine of "A Woman of Substance," returns in this book, much to the delight of many faithful readers.  Paula O'Neill is the beloved granddaughter of Emma Harte and the legal guardian of her vast empire; Paula is confident that the empire is secure. However, beneath the calm are her two daughters, Linnet and Tessa, as different from each other as seems possible. One of them wants the empire for her own but has a terrible secret that could put her life in jeopardy.

Into the middle of this volatile mix appears Evan Hughes, a young American fashion designer who is, in fact, looking for Emma Harte, (who has been dead for 30 years.)  Evan also bears a striking resemblance to Paula O'Neill.  Extremely distracted by Evan's presence, Paula turns to her grandmother's recently uncovered wartime diaries to find the truth; Emma becomes energized from her discoveries.

Decades disappear as the past comes back. It is 1940 in London:  the Blitz. Emma is working hard under wartime conditions; she keeps her family together as bombs drop, sirens scream and her sons go off to fight in the war. She struggles with grief but is sustained by her own will power and inner strength.  Paula eventually uncovers the secret taken to the grave with Emma, a secret whose repercussions inevitably change lives and may shake the dynasty to its very foundation.

Readers of the series might have a little trouble grasping the large cast of characters and their relationships to each other but it is still a good book. Readers having read "A Woman of Substance" will find old friends brought back to life.  The descriptions of BTB's native Yorkshire countryside are beautifully and lovingly written, painting a very clear and enduring picture. The historical information surrounding WWII is accurate and contributes well to the overall story. My personal view is that the WWII parts of the book are way more interesting than the present day portions.

Barbara Taylor Bradford was born in Leeds and by age 20 was an editor and columnist on Fleet Street. She has written over 20 books, sold in 90 countries and published in over 40 languages, and is known world wide as an excellent word sculptress. It was a pleasure to catch up on Emma Hughes and her family.

This book will take some time; it's worth it.

<>Bird Feeders
<>
<>Now that winter is on the way in many of our chatters' areas, it is time to clean out backyard bird feeders. Hummingbird feeders should be taken down, washed and stored. Seed-type feeders should be checked for safety issues and cleaned out. If you have noticed wet/damp seeds in the bottom of the feeder and seedlings sprouting, check for leaks and/or cracks. Oftentimes rain water settles in the feeders, and if wet seeds are left to grow, molds and mildews will also grow.  We want our feathered friends to remain healthy this winter.

For those of you who feed the birds year-round, it may be time to change your seed mixture. Many song birds have headed south, so seeds like niger and dried fruits might no longer be needed. Speak with someone at your local feed store, and they should be able to tell you what mixtures you need to attract certain birds in your area.

One thing many people do is add a calcium supplement to seed mixtures to ensure healthy bones, and to ensure strong eggs for the mating season. This is a great idea! But a less expensive and easy way to add calcium to your mixture is to use what you already have!
With the holidays coming, we start baking. Or you may cook breakfast on the weekends for your family. Save your eggshells!

When you have finished baking, turn your oven off, and place the eggshells on a tray in the oven and leave them for a few hours. I have often left mine over night. When the shells are dried, simply crush them up with a rolling pin. You are not going to be making a "dust", but you do want the pieces to be small enough for the birds to eat. Some people place the shells in a feeder on their own. I mix the dried shell into my seed mixture. This will not only help the little guys to stay healthy, but offers them help with digesting their food.

If you have Cardinals and BlueJays in your area, don't forget to have raw peanuts in the shell on hand. I have spent many hours just watching the antics of these birds as they flit around and pick up the shells, shaking them and dropping them before moving off to the next shelled nut. I think they are "weighing" them and looking for the best goodie!

HANDY HINT: Slippery walkways? Toss bird seed onto these areas. While the seed will NOT melt snow and ice, it will offer some traction! And is safer then the salt for Mother Nature's feathered daintier creatures! Come spring any seed left (and there won't be much) is easily swept away.

Ad-Aware Spyware Remover Tips - contributed by Amazing
For those who use ad-aware for spyware protection and if you are using ad-aware 6.0, there is a new version out. You can check it out at lavasoft  The new version is ad-aware SE.
If/when you get it I have found the best thing to do is uninstall the ad-aware 6.0 by going to add/remove programs and remove it from there.
Once you have done that then check in your program files to see if there is a folder there called Lavasoft. If there is then delete whatever is left in that folder.
After you have done that THEN install the new ad-aware SE

Once again we have breaking news to report.
And I do mean breaking.
Millions of users have installed Mozilla's FireFox browser worldwide without problems...
and as you may know Firefox uses what is called the 'gecko' browser engine.

Well, those who follow this newsletter will know that NOLady has these delusions about geckos.

So she installs firefox and it crashes.
Millions of installs everywhere.  And HER install crashes.
Cause it has a gecko.

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
Thanks to ItsyDad for this one!
Remember, there is no way you can look as bad as that person on your drivers license.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants,
hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT
to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
11. Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Humpty Dumpty was pushed!
Have a Great Day!!!!

BIBLE
Thanks to treecat for this one!
A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"
His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?"
The son replied, "I do know!"
"Okay, said his father.  "So, son, what does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy.  It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth."

Thanks once again to those who sent in articles for the newsletter.  Please encourage your channel owners and other guests to send in their important dates for the month, channel chatter, and general noteworthy news!  It really gives our network a stronger sense of continuity when we can share these events with those outside the channels we normally visit.  One of the things I have always cherished about our network is the way channels support and visit and encourage other channels rather than stooping to the pettiness of competition and exclusion and such.  That's just another testament to the character of our community!  If you are as busy as I am, you don't always have the time to get out and visit other channels.  Our Sunday evening #Townhall meetings are an excellent opportunity to come and meet other folks that we would not normally chat with or get to know.  Come join us for these meetings which are often informative and always fun.  We usually have refreshments, too!  But you all know how that  goes with Itsy around.... not even the platters are left by the time everyone gets there!.
